QWFC assists the G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital Mammography Unit by making purchases that enable women to receive the best of care when visiting this Unit.

QWFC believes that through better technology and resources, G.R. Baker Memorial Hospital can provide the women of Quesnel with mammography services comparable to those of larger centres.

QWFC donates directly to the G. R. Baker Memorial Hospital's Mammography Unit. This support provides special patient gowns, testing equipment and educational tools for the Mammography Unit. Our long term goal is to purchase a digital mammography unit. The greatest benefit of a digital mammography unit in Quesnel is the fact that the breast images can be sent directly to Prince George for review by a radiologist. Currently all diagnostic mammography has to be carried out when a radiologist is on site in Quesnel, which can be as infrequently as once a month. With a digital mammography unit, images are viewed immediately and should it be necessary to take more, it can be done while the patient is still in the department. Along with other technical advantages, digital mammography is of immediate benefit to patients and radiologists alike.

Number of women screened in Quesnel's mammography unit:
1999-00        700 patients
2000-01        900 patients
2001-02        1000 patients
2002-03        1100 patients
2003-04        1000 patients
